Kelly Clarkson has suggested that she and her fellow Duets mentors will treat the contestants with respect
Clarkson, John Legend, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles travel the country in the new series to find aspiring musicians talented enough to perform duets with them.
Speaking about Duets with Access Hollywood, Clarkson said that the celebrity mentors will take a positive approach while evaluating aspiring musicians.
“We’re all honest, but we’re all very positive about it,” she said. “We sat down together and really wanted to make sure we weren’t the show that was just like, ‘Oh, you suck’ or ‘You’re not good.’ I don’t ever want to tell someone that.
“So, we’re very positive, but we do give constructive criticism. We’re very honest.”
Clarkson went to reveal that she and Nettles are frequently reduced to tears while judging contestants.
“There’s two criers – that would be me and Jennifer. That’s okay – we’re in it together,” the American Idol winner teased.
“I just can’t help it! I get so passionate about it [and] it’s so touching, the stories.”
Duets premieres Thursday, May 24 at 8/7c on ABC.
