Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger‘ album crosses the 1 million total sales mark this week, giving the original “American Idol” winner her first million-seller since her second effort, 2004′s ‘Breakaway’ (6.3 million). ‘Stronger’ sold another 8,000 copies this past week (reentering at No. 173, up 64%), bringing its total sum to a wee bit over 1 million.
After ‘Breakaway,’ Clarkson issued 2007′s ‘My December’ and 2009′s ‘All I Ever Wanted.’ They have sold 836,000 and 961,000, respectively. The diva’s debut album, 2003′s ‘Thankful,’ is also in the million club, with 2.8 million sold.
Kelly Clarkson spoke with MTV News in Toronto yesterday (Monday) and confirmed that the haunting, mid-tempo ‘Dark Side‘ will be the official 3rd single from her 5th studio album, ‘Stronger‘.
“[Dark Side] is gonna be the next one!” she says, excitedly.
When asked if she had begun work on the video for the single written by Busbee and Alex G. she told MTV News that she’s just sent directors her ideas.
“I just sent some, well, not a full-on treatment, sometimes I like to just come up with the concept of visually what I’d like to see and then just let the directors run with it, they’re so creative and they usually have such great ideas, [I like] when more people are involved and ideas are flowing, but I did come up with a pretty good one.”
So, can she give us a little hint as to what her fans can expect from the clip?
“No!” she says laughing, “I don’t want to give it away!”
“I’m excited, it’s gonna be different than what you probably think! I just sent out the idea I’d like them to run with, asll three [of these vidoes from this album] will be very different!”
Exciting stuff, Kelly! For more from our chat with the superstar, watch the full clip below!
Kelly Clarksonis stronger than Adele -- at least on the Billboard Hot 100. Her latest single, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” has just replaced Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” at #1, becoming the third chart-topper of her career. Her previous two were “A Moment Like This,” that being her post-American Idolsingle, and “My Life Would Suck Without You.”
The success of “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” was no doubt boosted by Kelly’s performance of the national anthem at the Super Bowl last Sunday, which most agreed was flawless. In addition, the song is featured in a heavily-rotated Toyota commercial, which shows Kelly singing it along ESPN’s Chris Berman, Bravo’s James Lipton and Andrew Zimmern of the Travel Channel
