Kelly Clarkson sang during the seventh inning of the game between the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park in Boston on August 28th. I added a few pics to the gallery.

Hard to believe, but it’s been seven years since Kelly Clarkson walked away with the first ‘American Idol’ title. While she’s long since transcended the title and proved her mettle as a legitimate artist, she’s managed to retain that down-to-earth quality that endeared her to fans during her run on the show.

Thursday night in front of an enthusiastic crowd estimated at 5,600, Kelly also proved she can rock with the best of them!

Opening her Mohegan Sun Grandstand show with “All I Ever Wanted,” Kelly segued nicely into “Miss Independent” and followed that up with her current hit, “I Do Not Hook Up.” Strong start for a show that ran the gamut from hard rock to country to pop. She even tossed in a couple of acoustic numbers, proving that her vocal skills haven’t suffered a bit from the heavier rock numbers.

In between numbers, Kelly chatted with the crowd, at one point joking about her hair. Her connection with the audience was genuine and throughout the 90-minute show she appeared to be having just as much fun as the audience.

A production crew from cable network MTV will be chronicling the action at tonight’s Kelly Clarkson concert at the New York State Fair’s Mohegan Sun Grandstand. The footage will fit into a documentary, “Get Schooled: You Have the Right.”

In addition to singer Clarkson, the show also will feature NBA star LeBron James and President Barack Obama. The program will be simulcast on all of Viacom’s media properties at the same time, at 8 p.m. Sept. 8.

Included will be BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, COMEDY CENTRAL, Spike TV and Nickelodeon.

According to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation site: ” ‘Get Schooled: You Have the Right’ formally kicks off ‘Get Schooled,’ a five-year national initiative co-developed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Viacom that creates a platform for corporate and community stakeholders to address the challenges facing America’s public schools.”

The concert, with Gavin DeGraw opening for Clarkson, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets remain at the fair box office, priced at $40 and $35.

The second and final Saturday night of the 2009 Iowa State Fair was a star-studded evening.

Kelly Clarkson, the original “American Idol” winner, entertained a crowd of 5,800 at the Grandstand as part of her “All I Ever Wanted” summer mini-tour that has been stopping at fairs across the country.  It was Clarkson’s debut performance in Des Moines. The first and only time she performed in Iowa was in 2003 during a small, mostly Midwest tour that followed her “Idol” win.

Clarkson kept her energy high and voice strong throughout her set, with the help of an 11-piece backing band and angst-ridden lyrics.
“If I can’t have you, then I don’t want anyone,” she sang amid thumping pop rhythms and flashing strobe lights during “If I Can’t Have You.”

“I hope the ring you gave her turns her finger green,” she sang, shaking her hand in the air during “Never Again,” which she called the “best breakup song ever.”
Clarkson, who confessed she never sang an acoustic version of “Hazel Eyes” on tour, performed it with just two backing acoustic guitars and the help of her tenor- and soprano-voiced young fans who knew all the words.
